Lavrov: America told us about the strike on Syria "minutes before" its execution

The Russian Information Agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying today, Friday, that the United States had warned Russia only minutes before it would carry out an air strike in eastern Syria, a time frame which he described as "insufficient."

Interfax quoted Lavrov as calling for the United States to restore contacts with Moscow on Syria to clarify the position of US President Joe Biden's administration regarding Syria.

Lavrov announced Russia's intention to resume contacts with the United States on Syria soon, and said that "according to some reports, the United States does not intend to leave Syria at all, and Moscow wants clarifications from Washington on this issue."

Lavrov's statements came after US raids on pro-Iranian militia sites near the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The raids targeted border control points in eastern Syria, warehouses and trucks of ammunition and weapons, south of the Syrian city of Albu Kamal.
