Nuremberg (dpa) - Christoph Kuch (46), mental magician from Nuremberg, has managed what many failed before: In the popular US talent show "Fool us" he won the main prize on Saturday night.

He is allowed to appear alongside the American magician legends Penn and Teller in Las Vegas in front of a large audience.

Kuch performed several mental tricks on the show.

Among other things, he conjured up a live goldfish from his mouth.

The magical duo Penn & Teller did not find out how Kuch's tricks work.

Whoever puts them in ("fooled") wins a gig in Las Vegas.

Penn once said in a US interview that in the ten years since the show has been on the "CW" station, only about twelve percent of the candidates had managed to dup them.

Some of the previous winners of the show were able to start an international career as a magician.

This is also what the Nuremberg man dreams of.

“That I managed to“ fool ”both of them feels good, of course, and is confirmation of the hard work of the past few years,” said Kuch, who also turned 46 on Saturday.

"The prize is a great birthday present."

In 2011, Kuch won the German Magic Art Championship and in 2012 the World Championship in the Mental Magic division.

Then he quit his job as a merchant to devote himself entirely to magic.

He has already appeared on German television several times and runs a magic school with colleagues in Nuremberg.

Because of the Corona restrictions, Kuch was unable to present his appearance directly in the American TV studio.

The trick was recorded in the autumn of last year in the Stuttgart Renitenztheater with 20 spectators and then played in the broadcast.

Kuch was connected to the program from Nuremberg via video conference.
