Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - At the end of February almost all health authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia introduced the uniform Corona software "Sormas" or are preparing to do so.

This was reported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Düsseldorf at the request of the German Press Agency.

Of the 53 health authorities, only three are not yet on board.

43 offices are - as of Friday noon - "sormas capable" and a further seven health authorities have promised to install the software for contact tracking shortly.

The ministries for the economy and the ministry of health are in close contact with the remaining three offices so that they can follow suit quickly, said a spokeswoman.

The three municipalities involved were not disclosed.

"The state government is still optimistic that this goal can be achieved."

The federal and state governments had decided to introduce the new software across Germany in all health authorities by the end of February.

«Sormas» - developed by the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research - is intended to facilitate the exchange between the authorities in the fight against the pandemic.

The installation got off to a very slow start.

There were skeptical and critical tones from municipal umbrella organizations.

The health authorities used their own software solutions and therefore feared disadvantages or even a step backwards in some points.

NRW Minister of Economic Affairs Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) had made it clear that the state reserved the right to order the use of "Sormas" by decree if necessary.
