Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The current winter should literally have explosive power on Brandenburg's streets.

As a survey by the German press agency showed, the previous frost and thaw harbors considerable dangers for the road surfaces.

"The damage caused by the constant change from plus and minus temperatures is visible on the streets," says the spokesman for the State Road Administration, Steffen Streu.

The company looks after 2740 kilometers of federal and 5680 kilometers of state roads and 2082 kilometers of cycle paths in Brandenburg.

"We start with the inspection of the damage, but it is still too early for an interim balance, because the winter is not over yet," says Streu.

A change from plus and minus temperatures can also be expected in the coming days, which could cause further damage.

Something similar can be heard from the municipalities.

"The substance of the old street stock presents us with the greatest challenges," says Potsdam city spokeswoman Christine Homann.

As part of the route control, the Potsdamer Bauhof continuously and permanently removes danger spots, which also included frost breakouts.
