Grimmen (dpa / mv) - The chairman of the Young Union of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Georg Günther, has been elected as a CDU direct candidate in the previous constituency of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In the vote on Friday in Grimmen, the 32-year-old was the only candidate to receive 106 out of 117 votes, said the vice-chairman of the CDU district association Vorpommern-Rügen, Andreas Kuhn, on Friday the German press agency.
Previously, the broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV reported.
Günther, who has a degree in finance, will run in constituency 15 Vorpommern-Rügen / Vorpommern-Greifswald I.
In this constituency, Merkel had won the direct mandate in all eight elections since 1990.
The Chancellor announced a long time ago that she would no longer run.
According to NDR, she was not present in Grimmen on Friday evening.
