Berlin (dpa) - The cultural foundation of the federal states is getting a new place to stay.

Starting next year, the foundation, which is committed to the preservation, mediation and preservation of the cultural heritage, will move into the theater building at Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin.

A lease agreement was concluded with the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation in Berlin-Brandenburg on July 1, 2022, as announced on Friday by the foundation, which was previously located on Lützowplatz in the Tiergarten district.

In the theater building, the cultural foundation will encounter a culturally influenced neighborhood.

The Käthe Kollwitz Museum will also move to this part at the western end of the palace next year.

While the museum will use the ground floor and first floor, the cultural foundation will move to the second floor of the three-story building.

The representative building was built in the early classical style according to plans by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans (1732-1808), who was also responsible for the Brandenburg Gate.

The foundation, supported by the federal states, serves to promote and preserve art and culture of national standing.

For example, it supports the acquisition of certificates that are particularly important for German culture.

This can be the case if there is a threat of emigration abroad.

But we also support repurchases from abroad, such as the Quedlinburg Cathedral Treasure.
