The United Nations has stated that the greenhouse gas reduction targets submitted by each country under the Paris Agreement, an international framework for combating global warming, are insufficient to curb global warming, and major emissions including Japan We called on the country to strengthen its goals.

The Paris Agreement requires countries to submit greenhouse gas reduction targets to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which submitted new and updated targets by the end of December last year. Revealed that it has climbed to 75 countries and territories.

Of these, the UK and the EU-European Union have set new goals to reduce emissions by 2030 by at least 68% in the UK and 55% in the EU compared to 1990.

On the other hand, other major emitting countries, including Japan, have hardly changed their targets or have not submitted new targets.

The United Nations says it will need to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 in order to keep the global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to before the Industrial Revolution, which is currently difficult to achieve.

Secretary-General António Guterres said, "This is a report that warns the planet. Major emitters must more ambitiously strengthen their reduction targets by 2030," and discuss climate change measures with major emitters. He called for the submission of new goals by the UN meeting in November, COP26.
