Munich (dpa / lby) - The training for educators will be shortened from five to four years.

From this summer there will also be the opportunity to carry out the practical phases at the same time as the theoretical part of the training, as the Ministry of Social Affairs and Culture announced on Thursday.

For high school graduates and career changers with professional experience, the training is even shortened to three years.

With the changes, the training is to be modernized and thus more attractive in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers.

In the conventional training course there will only be a one-year instead of a two-year practical preparatory year.

For the following two school years, trainees can now apply for Bafög before they receive remuneration in the final year of practice.

In addition, there is now the possibility of completing the practical phase at the same time as the theoretical part of the training after the preparatory year.

During these three years, the trainees should receive around 1200 euros a month.

A third option is aimed at high school graduates and career changers with relevant work experience.

In future, you can complete the training in three years without a previous year, either according to the conventional or the new model with parallel theoretical and practical units.
