The investigation continues in Rennes five days after the fatal accident that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man.

This biker, who was trying to flee the police on the handlebars of a powerful two-wheeler, was killed in a road accident near the Nantes bridge during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

According to several witnesses, the victim was alone at the time of the accident, the police having only arrived later.

The autopsy performed by a forensic doctor revealed that the victim had consumed alcohol before the accident.

An alcohol level of 0.76 grams per liter of blood was observed and recent consumption of cannabis, said the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc.

The accident occurred in Rennes city center shortly after midnight on February 21 after an attempted police check.

The biker had been spotted by several patrols for having increased the number of offenses.

He would have been chased by the anti-crime brigade, which would have lost its trace a few moments, before discovering the young man inanimate, lying on the road.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim would have struck the safety rails located under the Nantes bridge.

Alerted, the firefighters could do nothing to revive him.
