February 26, 2021: Four people died after falling into a frozen lake in southern Sweden where temperatures are unusually mild these days.

The victims are four men between 65 and 75 who were walking on Savsjo Lake, near the city of Jönköping. The attempts of rescuers to revive them after they were pulled out of the water were useless.

Such incidents are quite common in Sweden. However this year, after weeks of intense cold, which froze rivers and lakes, temperatures have soared across the country.

According to the Swedish Meteorological Center, the record heat in February was recorded yesterday with 16.8 degrees in Kalmar, in the south east.
