Potsdam / Steinhöfel (dpa / bb) - Steinhöfel Castle (Oder-Spree) and the surrounding park have a new owner.

This was announced by the two shareholders of Brandenburgische Schlösser GmbH (BSG) - the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) and the State of Brandenburg - on Friday.

The new owner was able to convince, among other things, with his monument preservation concept and the assurance that the park can also be used by the public.

The castle, built at the end of the 18th century, stands for the impressive inventory of historic castles and manor houses in Brandenburg, said Minister of Culture Manja Schüle (SPD).

In 1759 Frederick the Great dined under the “royal oak” in the park, and around 100 years later Theodor Fontane raved about the English landscape park in Steinhöfel, she reported.

The new owner Thomas Pahlitzsch, who, according to the shareholders, is a monument lover, announced that he would like to maintain the history of the castle.

The castle will continue to be used as a hotel and conference and event location for congresses, concerts and celebrations.

In addition, the castle library will also be available to the registry office for weddings in the future, according to Pahlitzsch.

The restoration of Steinhöfel Castle took place after the takeover in 1998 by Brandenburgische Schlösser GmbH.

The building has been used as a hotel since 2002.

In addition to the castle, the ensemble includes an office building, a farm yard and other buildings on the village green as well as a large park with a library.

The park, which Fontane once called “one of the most beautiful in the province”, is one of the earliest landscape parks in Brandenburg.
