Munich (dpa / lby) - The directors of the state theaters in Munich are pushing for theaters, concert halls and opera houses to be opened by April 1 at the latest.

"

After a year of more or less lockdown, I am convinced that we are making giant strides towards a cultural climate catastrophe," said Nikolaus Bachler, director of the Bavarian State Opera, on Friday in Munich.

"If we don't get changes here soon, there will be deserts and wastelands from which we will not recover for years."

Bachler's colleague at the Residenztheater, Andreas Beck, sees it similarly.

"We have to learn to live with this virus," said Beck.

At the moment, every policy is geared towards the X day: "The virus is gone by magic and we will storm the cultural institutions again."

But this day won't happen.

"I believe that politics has moved away from people's reality."

It is high time to restore proportionality here.

Culture is currently the victim of a symbolic politics.

Josef E. Köpplinger, director of the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz, referred to the good hygiene concepts.

The houses have done a lot, the concepts work and the visit is safe.

In addition, cultural offers are important for mental health.

Psychological pressure can make you sick, art and culture are important outlets for many people.

The theater directors fear serious consequences for the artists as well.

"We cut the thread of life from an actor, a singer, a dancer who doesn't appear for a year," Bachler pointed out.
