Essen (dpa / lnw) - A band of robbers is said to have carried out more than 100 robberies across the country on wearers of expensive watches and expensive jewelry in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Police in Essen reported on Friday that the gang had been on the lookout for victims in posh districts.

To get hold of women's jewelry, they would not have shrunk from grabbing it in their crotch.

Raids in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Neuss, Mettmann and the Ruhr area are said to be on the account of the group.

On Thursday, a special unit finally took action against the gang and searched apartments in Duisburg and Essen.

A judge issued arrest warrants on Friday against two 26 and 33 year old women and a 28 year old man.

Last weekend, the robbers are said to have ripped an 80-year-old's luxury watch from the Rolex brand off the wrist.

On Thursday, police officers in Düsseldorf were eyewitnesses to another attack.

They saw how the 26-year-old attacked a passerby and tried to steal his gold necklace.

Before the officers could intervene, the woman ran to a waiting getaway car.

He drove over the Autobahn 52 to Neuss, where special forces stopped the car and overpowered the occupants.
