During the past 24 hours, 5,151 positive corona tests have been registered at the RIVM.

That is again more than the average over the past seven days (4,547).

Since the start of the corona pandemic, nearly 1.1 million positive corona tests have been conducted in the Netherlands.

Statistically, this makes the Netherlands one of the twenty worst affected countries worldwide.

On Wednesday, RIVM reported the largest increase in the number of positive tests in more than one month.

Within 24 hours, the health institute registered 5,048 infections.

But because daily figures can fluctuate, NU.nl looks at the weekly average.

RIVM also repeatedly emphasized that these figures provide a better picture.

In the past week, about four to five thousand positive tests were reported almost every day.

The RIVM also reports 65 corona-related deaths, which further increases the total number of corona deaths to 15,504.

Not all of these patients have died in the past 24 hours because there may be a delay between the date of death and the date of reporting.

Worldwide, 2.5 million people have died with COVID-19.
