Berlin / Mainz (dpa / lrs) - A total of 1016 damage to property were counted at railway stations in Rhineland-Palatinate last year.

This resulted in a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a request from the FDP in the Bundestag, which the German Press Agency had received and which had previously been reported by the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Friday).

With around 1000 acts, Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, was significantly behind Saxony, which is roughly comparable in terms of population (2206).

In Saarland, however, 427 property damage was registered at train stations, nationwide it was almost 27,800.

The answer also lists cases of break-ins and damage to ticket machines.

Rhineland-Palatinate came to only eleven cases, the Saarland to three in nationwide 313 incidents.

The front runner was the neighboring state of Hesse (43).

Most of the crimes at train stations in Rhineland-Palatinate came from Mainz main station with 978, followed by those in Koblenz (383) and Trier (297).

In Saarland, most of the crimes at Saarbrücken Central Station were counted at 1185.

In summary, the Federal Ministry of the Interior emphasized in its answer: "In the opinion of the Federal Government, the stations and trains in Germany are safe."
