Bremen (dpa / lni) - According to the decision of the conference of health ministers at the beginning of the week, the health authorities in Bremen vaccinated the first educators from day-care centers.

A total of 400 vaccination appointments were scheduled for Friday, said Lukas Fuhrmann, spokesman for the Bremen health senator.

The vaccine is used by Astrazeneca.

In addition to the educators, the first primary school teachers are to be vaccinated next week.

Bremen's mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) described Monday's decision by the health ministers to give priority to vaccinating employees in daycare centers, elementary schools and special needs schools as the decisive step forward in infection protection in the education sector.

"If everything goes well and the vaccine arrives as promised, we will hopefully have vaccinated all 16,000 employees by the Easter holidays," said Bovenschulte in his government statement on Thursday.
