Weimar / Erfurt (dpa) - The Thuringian Higher Administrative Court has confirmed the ban on a planned meeting in Erfurt against the state corona measures.

The decision of the city to ban the rally was justified in view of the infection situation, the OVG announced on Friday evening.

"The number of those vaccinated and the number of those recovered would not give any reason to deviate from this assessment," it said.

The city of Erfurt had banned the rally planned for Saturday, for which up to 10,000 participants were registered.

The Weimar Administrative Court confirmed this ban in the first instance.

Also on Friday evening, the Magdeburg Police Department, as the assembly authority, announced that two assemblies in downtown Magdeburg were banned on Saturday.

According to the police spokesman, there were indications that replacement events for the prohibited rally in Erfurt were planned in Magdeburg's city center.

Officially 100 and 300 participants were registered for the meetings in Saxony-Anhalt's state capital.

The police spokesman announced that they wanted to be there on Saturday with a "large police presence".

The OVG in Thuringia said that a limitation of the number of participants to 500 people could "very likely not be effectively implemented effectively", since the event had been advertised nationwide at an early stage with a number of 10,000 participants.

In addition, there are doubts that the applicant is complying with the infection protection obligations.

The decision is final.

Thuringia is currently the most severely affected state by the pandemic.

The number of new infections recorded per 100,000 inhabitants within the past seven days was 121 on Friday. This means that the number of new corona infections was about twice as high as the national average.
