Berlin (dpa / bb) - Almost everywhere in Germany fewer train travelers fell victim to pickpockets in the past year, but not in Berlin.

There, the number of offenses recorded in trains and stations rose to 1108. That was 24 cases more than in the previous year, as a request from the FDP in the Bundestag revealed.

In 2020, there were significantly fewer possible victims on the way due to the corona restrictions.

"In the opinion of the federal government, the stations and trains in Germany are safe," says the response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which the dpa has received.

Because the number of all crimes in stations and trains fell nationwide in 2020, including pickpocketing.

With Thuringia, Berlin is an exception and is the state with the highest number of cases.

The station where the Federal Police registered most of the crimes in total remains the main station.

In 2020 it was 1795, the year before that in 2009. This is followed by the Ostbahnhof and Alexanderplatz stations.
