Potsdam (dpa / bb) - For more safety in teaching, the Ministry of Education is making more masks available to teachers in Brandenburg primary schools.

In addition to the already procured FFP2 masks, the ministry will immediately enable the procurement of medical masks for the teachers, according to a joint letter from State Secretary Ines Jesse and the Main Staff Council to all teachers on Friday.

This involves two free masks per day per teacher for the next twelve weeks of school.

If in individual cases it is not possible to keep enough distance despite smaller groups, Plexiglas can also be separated.

Since last Monday, the elementary schools in Brandenburg have been open again for alternating lessons between school and home.

The main teaching staff council had warned of risks, called for free masks for all teachers and students and more rapid tests.

He also warned of staff shortages.

The ministry and the staff representatives agreed that part of the working hours of teachers should be used for distance learning who cannot be fully used in the school due to previous illnesses.
