Regensburg (dpa) - Thanks to penalty retention Alex Meyer, SSV Jahn Regensburg had a successful dress rehearsal for their DFB Cup quarter-finals against SC Paderborn.

Even without his coach Mersad Selimbegovic, who was absent due to a positive corona test, the Upper Palatinate won 1-0 (0-0) in the 2nd Bundesliga on Friday evening and gained air in the relegation battle.

The long-time equal Paderborn, however, missed the step into the upper half of the table and are only two points ahead of Jahn, who now has 29 points on his account.

A goal by Max Besuschkow (48th minute) was withdrawn by the video referee due to an offside position.

Sebastian Stolze (53rd) then took the lead in the Regensburg urge phase against Paderborn.

In front of Selimbegovic's assistant Sebastian Dreier, goalkeeper Meyer (65th) parried a penalty from Dennis Srbeny.

The Jahn head coach Selimbegovic, who tested positive on the match day, will have to follow the cup climax on Tuesday against Werder Bremen in quarantine at home.
