Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Four cute meerkats are currently scurrying through their enclosure in the Duisburg Zoo and are increasingly going on discovery tours.

Meerkat mother Sophie and her partner Elvis have given birth for the second time.

The nimble gang, already six weeks old, is now more and more often leaving the protective litter box in the warm stable and keeping the family on their toes, the zoo announced on Friday.

The mini meerkats are the first offspring in Duisburg this year.

Family head Sophie is particularly hungry at the moment.

Fresh mealworms, grasshoppers and sometimes an egg are on the menu.

While the boss feasts on the food, the rest of the family watches over the cute mini-predators - and has their paws full to do.

“Raising young animals is not just the responsibility of the parents, all family members look after the little ones and look after them.

At least one adult animal is always in their immediate vicinity, ”explained biologist Volker Grün.
