Dresden / Berlin (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, rail travelers reported significantly fewer pickpockets in the past year than in the previous year.

The number of cases recorded fell to 95. That was 125 fewer than in the previous year, as a request from the FDP in the Bundestag revealed.

Due to the corona pandemic, there were significantly fewer rail travelers in 2020.

"In the opinion of the federal government, the stations and trains in Germany are safe," says the response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which the dpa has received.

Because the number of all crimes in stations and trains fell significantly nationwide in 2020.

The number of recorded pickpockets also fell: 4043 offenses were recorded in 2020 and more than 6100 in 2019.

As in the previous year, the station in the Free State where the Federal Police registered most of the crimes was Leipzig Central Station.

2038 crimes were reported there.

This is followed by the train stations Dresden Hauptbahnhof and Dresden-Neustadt with 948 and 433 registered crimes.
