Berlin (dpa) - Union professional Max Kruse is hoping for his comeback in the Bundesliga home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim after a three-month injury break.

«He trained very well and with commitment this week.

He's definitely an option, ”said Urs Fischer, 1. FC Union coach, before the game on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / DAZN).

Ex-national player Kruse had already been part of the squad in the recent 1-0 victory of the Berliners in the Bundesliga at SC Freiburg, but had not yet played.

Now the 32-year-old wants to play again.

Fischer left it open on Friday whether Kruse is planned as a substitute or straight away for the starting XI: "Anything is imaginable."

Union's prominent newcomer is still the Iron's top scorer with six goals despite the long absence due to a torn muscle.

In the 3-1 win in the first leg against 1899, Kruse was directly involved in all three Unioner's goals.

Union is currently in the table with 33 points in seventh place.

Fischer did not want to decide yet whether goalkeeper Andreas Luthe is back in the first team.

Liverpool loan Loris Karius had represented Luthe, who was absent for personal reasons and then twisted his knee slightly, in Freiburg and earlier in the 0-0 draw against Schalke.

"We'll see what physical and mental condition he is in, we'll discuss that within the coaching team," said Fischer to Luthe.

The use of left-back Christopher Lenz, who struggles with muscular problems, is also questionable.

The injured Niko Gießelmann, Taiwo Awoniyi, Sheraldo Becker and Anthony Ujah are definitely missing.
