Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - After preliminary unsuccessful collective bargaining for the metal and electrical industry, IG Metall has called for warning strikes nationwide.

These will start one minute after midnight on Tuesday night (March 2nd), as the union announced.

On Monday there should already be protests in companies and in public.

On Friday the last attempt at rapprochement within the peace obligation failed in Bavaria.

In the fourth round of negotiations in Munich, it was “a bit emotional” at the end, said IG Metall district manager Johann Horn.

The employers “provoke resistance from the workers”.

The negotiator of the employers' association vbm, Angelique Renkhoff-Mücke, said: "We have agreed that we will first take a pause for thought."

In contrast to other collective bargaining districts, there is no new negotiation date in Bavaria.

In Baden-Württemberg, further talks are to be held on March 9th.

IG Metall is demanding four percent more wages for the approximately 3.8 million employees nationwide - where things are going badly in a company, in the form of wage compensation with reduced working hours.

So far, employers have promised wage increases for the year 2022 at the earliest and have rejected requests for more say in strategic decisions.

They demand that companies in crisis can automatically deviate from the collective agreement with certain balance sheet figures without long renegotiations with IG Metall.

Gesamtmetall boss Stefan Wolf criticized the warning strikes in an interview with the “Handelsblatt” (Friday).

"Some IG Metaller souls need a little rattle, but that doesn't make sense in view of the still difficult economic situation in our industry."

There is nothing to distribute in the current economic situation.

"We shouldn't jeopardize the slight recovery in industry, which we are fortunate enough to see, with warning strikes."

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Friday), the first chairman of IG Metall, Jörg Hofmann, criticized the poor progress made in the negotiations that have been ongoing since mid-December.

The employers' proposal does not provide for a wage increase after 2020 for the current year either.

“I'm sorry: this is not a good basis for collective bargaining.

It justifies the need to make it clear to employers through warning strikes that this is not the way to go. "

During the warning strikes from Tuesday, companies on short-time work will be excluded because there would be no economic pressure to build up there.
