Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Dresden Film Festival would like to present productions from 30 countries at its 33rd edition this summer.

From more than 2,700 submissions, the selection committees selected 34 entries for the international competition and 28 productions for the national competition, the organizers announced on Friday.

The festival usually takes place in April, but has been postponed to July 13th to 18th due to the pandemic.

The film festival awards 16 awards with total prize money of 70,500 euros.

The key topics mentioned were the search for identity, empowerment (strengthening of autonomy) and gender issues.

According to the festival, 23 premieres are planned.

In addition to the competitions, there are special programs with thematic and country focuses, retrospectives as well as youth and children's films.

30 entries in the competitions are animated films.

The filmmakers put their ideas into practice using a wide range of animation techniques - from classic cartoons to object animation to 3D computer animation.

This time female directors are in the clear majority in both competitions.
