Schwedt (dpa / bb) - The federal police have arrested two suspected smugglers in Schwedt (Uckermark district).

The officers checked three pedestrians at the Polish border on Thursday evening, as the federal police announced on Friday.

Two of them had no residence documents with them.

The third, a 21-year-old with a temporary residence permit, is said to have tried to smuggle the two to Germany, it said.

Another 25-year-old man was waiting for the trio in a car in a nearby parking lot.

He and the 21-year-old were arrested and proceedings were initiated against them for smuggling foreigners.

The other two men were also taken into custody.
