Gütersloh / Euskirchen (dpa / lnw) - Due to a corona outbreak in the Euskirchen plant of the home appliance manufacturer Miele, production will have to be shut down in five other plants in the coming week.

In Euskirchen, where Miele manufactures motors, 18 employees had previously tested positive.

The British mutant had been found in ten of them.

As Miele announced on Friday, 206 employees had to go into quarantine up to and including March 9.

According to the information, a total of 500 people are employed in the plant.

Because the Euskirchen plant is unable to deliver, production will have to be temporarily shut down in the course of the coming week at the GTG equipment plant in Gütersloh, in Bielefeld, in Uničov (Czech Republic) and in Ksawerów (Poland).

Since then no more plastic components can be removed there, the factory in Warendorf must also be shut down inevitably.

According to the company, the first infections were already detected on Tuesday.

A series of tests was then carried out on all 500 employees at the Euskirchen plant.

According to Miele, it is unclear how the virus got into the company and spread there.

There are no indications that this is due to inadequate protective measures, emphasized the company.
