"I cannot go into the details of the attack" but we are "ready to give all the information" and "we are working with all the investigators" so that "whoever perpetrated this crime is brought to justice".

This was stated by the deputy director of the World Food Program (WFP) in Congo, Rocco Leone, who was unharmed in the attack in which the ambassador Luca Attanasio, the carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci and their driver were killed.

Leone released a statement read by WFP Deputy Communications Director Greg Barrow in a press briefing.

The official is not hospitalized and "is fine," the spokesman said.

"The road from Goma was considered safe for travel at the time of the mission, if there was any question of safety we would have taken other measures. The protocols were followed," Barrow said.

The Farnesina: "Security was the responsibility of the WFP"

The security measures at the time of the attack "fell under the responsibility of the WFP which had organized the mission in the Goma region and which had indicated that the route 'had been authorized without an armed escort'" , writes the Farnesina in a note, adding that "the UN Security Department has formally communicated that it has launched an investigation - together with Pam and the MONUSCO mission - on the facts and that this investigation should end on March 9".
