According to information from the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”, the German Bishops' Conference did not talk at all about the crisis in the Archdiocese of Cologne at its three-day spring plenary meeting.

As the newspaper reported on Friday, citing participants, the actions of the Cologne Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki were not mentioned at all.

When the discussion about coming to terms with abuse and leaving the church was being discussed, the “Cologne confusion” was noticeable to everyone, but it was not specifically addressed.

“It is not really possible that there was no talk at all”, quoted the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” from the group of participants.

"On the other hand: What should we have discussed, what we don't already know and what Woelki hadn't already told us?" The prevailing opinion is that Woelki had "pushed the store up against the wall".

A spokesman for the bishops' conference said he did not confirm the report.

Woelki has been criticized for keeping an abuse report commissioned by himself under lock and key for almost a year.

He gives legal reasons for this.
