Berlin (dpa) - Alba Berlin has stopped the negative trend in the Euroleague.

On Friday evening, the capital club won in its own hall against the Greek top club Panathinaikos Athens after an increase in performance in the second half with 74:65 (28:34).

Previously, the Bundesliga basketball team had suffered four defeats in a row in the premier class.

The best throwers from Berlin were Johannes Thiemann with 16 and Marcus Eriksson with twelve points.

With nine wins out of 26 games, Alba is in 16th place out of 18 and thus further away from the playoff ranks.

In Berlin, captain Niels Giffey celebrated his comeback after weeks of injury.

Center Christ Koumadje, who was only signed on Thursday, was not yet in the squad.

After the last six days without play, the Berliners initially found no rhythm.

Almost every attack ended in a loss of the ball, only two meager points achieved over six minutes.

Panathinaikos, for whom it was the first game after two weeks of corona quarantine, also had problems, but was a bit more accurate.

With a 9-0 run, Alba briefly took the lead in the first quarter, but otherwise the hosts continued to struggle offensively.

Only two of the 15 distance throws found their way into the basket in the first half.

After the break, Alba woke up and was much more accurate.

Giffey brought his team back into the lead after a long time in the middle of the third quarter (45:43).

At the beginning of the last section, Thiemann was able to extend the lead with four successful distance throws in a row (62:55).

Then Alba brought the lead to the finish.
