Pieces of the world's largest canvas art will be auctioned off in Dubai to raise millions of dollars in charity for children in poor countries, British artist Sacha Jafri said Thursday.

“Journey of Humanity”, which measures 1,500 square meters, has been divided into 70 framed works and first unveiled to be auctioned off over the next two years.

These colorful works of different sizes were displayed on the walls of the luxurious Atlantis hotel in Dubai.

Sacha Jafri worked on this fresco as big as two football fields in this hotel where he was confined last year.

The objective is to raise at least 30 million dollars (24.5 million euros) to finance initiatives related to the health and education of children in poor countries.

"I don't want this to be an isolated initiative. I really want to help change the world, and the way to do that is to give the poorest communities internet access," the artist told AFP. 44 years old, based in Dubai.

"We can then provide education, and give them a real education," he hopes.

For seven months and at a rate of 18 to 20 hours a day, Sacha Jafri worked on the project with almost 300 coats of paint, using over 5,000 liters and around 1,000 brushes.

The work was completed at the end of September, shortly before Guinness confirmed that it was indeed the greatest artistic canvas in the world.

Children from 140 countries indirectly participated in the work by sending it their paintings.
