  According to public information, Wen Guodong was born in Xining, Qinghai, in August 1968. He used to serve as secretary of the Menyuan County Party Committee of Qinghai Province, member of the Standing Committee of the Haixi Prefecture Party Committee, Minister of the Organization Department, and secretary of the Yushu Prefecture Party Committee.

In July 2020, Wen Guodong served as Vice Governor of Qinghai Province, Secretary of Haixi Prefecture Committee, Secretary of Party Working Committee of Qaidam Circular Economy Pilot Zone.

In September of the same year, officials reported that he was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, voluntarily surrendered, and accepted investigation.

  On January 4 this year, the website of the State Supervision Commission of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced that Wen Guodong was expelled from the party and public office for serious violations of discipline and law.

He was accused of "relying on coal to eat coal", engaging in profit exchange with illegal private business owners, and acting as a "protective umbrella" for illegal coal mining.
