This is the dessert served by the abominable Snowman… but which was invented by a… pharmacist!

It was a 23-year-old pharmacist's apprentice named David Strickler who had the idea for this dish in 1904. He officiated in Latrobe in Pennsylvania and therefore offered a banana split in two, garnished with scoops of ice cream, accompanied by slices of ice cream. pineapple, marshmallow, crushed nuts, whipped cream, cherry and syrup.

This recipe is a success and many restaurants in the region are taking it up and modifying it.

It was popularized throughout the country by the Walgreen drugstore chain, which in its "drug stores" offered sodas, milkshakes and banana splits.

Ingredients for 4 people


- 4 bananas


- 12 scoops of vanilla ice cream


- 100 g of chocolate to melt


- 40 cl of liquid cream


- 20 of sugar


- 20 g of crushed walnuts


- 12 cherries in brandy

Peel the bananas and cut them in half

Melt the chocolate and add 10 of liquid cream

Whip the rest of the liquid cream with the sugar

Roast the crushed nuts in the oven

Place the scoops of ice cream in the center of the bananas, cover with chocolate, add the whipped cream, roasted nuts and cherries.
