Leingarten (dpa / lsw) - The end point of the planned Suedlink power highway in the north of Baden-Württemberg is taking shape.

Since last summer, the network operator TransnetBW has been building the necessary infrastructure on the site of its Großgartach substation near Heilbronn.

An underground route with currently empty pipes is currently being built there, through which the 525-kilovolt cable will later run to the substation, as a spokesman said.

The whole thing happens with a special horizontal drilling technique so that the ground does not have to be torn up on the approximately 425 meter long stretch.

Suedlink is supposed to transport electricity produced in northern Germany to the south.

The corridor runs for almost 700 kilometers from Schleswig-Holstein via Lower Saxony, Hesse, Thuringia and Bavaria to Baden-Württemberg.

A second route branches off beforehand and ends in Bavaria.

For most of the sections, including the approximately 100 kilometers in Baden-Württemberg, the planning approval process is now in progress.

Commissioning is planned for 2026.
