Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The number of registered corona infections in Rhineland-Palatinate has increased by 427 to 101 428 within 24 hours.

As the health department further announced on Thursday, the so-called 7-day incidence, i.e. the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days, rose slightly to 52.4 after 51.8 the day before (status 2.10 p.m.).

The highest values ​​are still in the districts of Germersheim (113.2) and Birkenfeld (111.2).

The value is lowest in the district of Kusel (18.9) and the city of Kaiserslautern (19.7).

The number of deaths related to the coronavirus rose by 8 to 3070. Currently, 6093 people in the country are infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

Of the detected infections, 433 were classified as a "worrying variant" on Thursday, with a further 594 infections there was a corresponding suspicion.

The term refers to cases like the coronavirus variants first discovered in the UK and South Africa, which are considered to be more contagious.

In the intensive care units in Rhineland-Palatinate, 103 people were treated for Covid-19 on Thursday (as of 12.15 p.m.), of which 61 were ventilated.

Of the 1218 intensive care beds reported as ready for use in the state's hospitals, 912 and thus around three quarters were occupied, according to data from the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi).
