To date, almost 700,000 vaccinations have been carried out in the country.

454,996 people have received one dose and 235,275 people have received two doses.

This was announced by the Swedish Public Health Agency at today's press conference.

The highest coverage rate is found in special housing for the elderly, where 83 per cent of the residents have received one dose and 70 per cent have received both doses.

The effects of this are now beginning to be seen, says Anders Tegnell.

- The increase in the number of cases is mainly among people under 65 years of age.

The elderly are becoming increasingly better protected.

Among people in Säbo, the number of cases and the number of deaths is decreasing.

It is a combination of a reduced spread of infection over a period of time but also a vaccine effect.

"The opportunity to influence"

In the group that has home care, 45 percent have received one dose and 21 percent both doses of vaccine.

All three vaccines that are now used in Sweden have a very high level of protection, says Tegnell.

- So here is a fantastic opportunity to influence the continuation of the pandemic we are in, he says.
