Hanover (dpa / lni) - In view of the Corona crisis, the Ministry of Culture has decided that there will be decentralized final exams for the core subjects of secondary school leaving certificates.

For the subjects German, English and mathematics, the dates for the written exam will also be postponed, the Ministry of Education announced on Thursday in Hanover.

The exams in the lower secondary level now take place on the original first post-registration date, so the pupils have more preparation time.

The ministry also pointed out that the oral exams were voluntary and not compulsory.

This would allow students to improve their grade in an exam.

However, the assessment of the performance in the voluntary oral examination will not be taken into account if, based on this assessment, the annual grade is worse than sufficient.

This regulation already applied last year and has proven itself extremely well.

"With safe and fair exams, we preserve future opportunities for young people," said Minister of Education Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD).

Degrees would be awarded that had no Corona blemish.

"In this way we prevent the young people from the 2020/2021 graduation class from having to justify themselves and possibly having poorer chances on the training and job market."

The Ministry prescribes strict hygiene measures for the course of the tests.
