Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) - In the appeal process for the violent death of six-year-old Leonie from Torgelow (Vorpommern-Greifswald), the verdict is expected today (1 p.m.).

The district court of Neubrandenburg has to decide whether the life sentence for the stepfather remains or is lower.

The 29-year-old had abused the girl so badly two years ago that the six-year-old died on January 12, 2019 in the family's apartment.

After an appeal, the Federal Court of Justice ordered a renegotiation in which only the man's motive was to be examined more closely.

The public prosecutor has again demanded a life sentence for the stepfather for "murder for base motives".

Defense attorney Bernd Raitor stated that his client had "no intention of killing" at the time and is demanding that his client be imprisoned for five years for "bodily harm resulting in death" in the Leonie case and one year for his client for bodily harm to the younger brother.
