Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD) considers an analysis of corona infections in old people's and nursing homes in the Free State to be necessary.

“I am very sad that, despite all our efforts, we have many deaths in the homes,” she told the German Press Agency in Dresden on Thursday: “All actors who are responsible for protecting the homes must reflect this fact .

These are the owners of the homes and also the health authorities of the municipalities and districts.

On Thursday the “Sächsische Zeitung” and the “Leipziger Volkszeitung” (LVZ) addressed the situation in old people's and nursing homes.

With reference to figures from the Federal Ministry of Health, the LVZ reported that since the beginning of the second corona wave, more than 1,600 residents from Saxon homes have been victims of the pandemic.

That is more than in any other state, it said.

«The protection of old people's and nursing homes was particularly important to me from the start of the pandemic.

We have taken many measures to protect the residents, ”said Köpping and recalled visiting bans, rules for home visits, testing options, the distribution of masks and the priority for vaccinations in homes.

Saxony had completely closed retirement and nursing homes to visitors in the first lockdown, from April 17, 2020, visits were permitted again subject to conditions.

Homes had to create concepts for this and were given protective equipment and information sheets, the ministry listed.

Since December 8, 2020, visitors have only been allowed access with a negative test result, and since mid-December there have been at least twice weekly tests by employees.

The frequency is now three tests per week.

The coordination and advice center “Corona Care Team Saxony” supports outpatient and inpatient care facilities.
