The alert was given very early this Thursday morning, around 4 a.m.

Smoke was escaping from the basement of the nursing home Saint-Martin Residence, in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes).

The important rescue system dispatched immediately had to secure the safety of 15 residents by moving them to a wing preserved from the fire.

In the end, a lot more fear than harm.

“No casualties, no injuries are to be deplored,” specifies the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service [Sdis] 06. Quickly located in the boiler room, the fire was brought under control using a fire hose.

Smoke removal from premises

Shortly before 6 a.m., all the residents were still being looked after by the nursing staff of the establishment, assisted by the nurse from the emergency services.

The firefighters ensured smoke evacuation in all the premises in order to allow residents to return to their rooms in complete safety.

In total, a detachment of 42 firefighters and 18 rescue vehicles was on site.

The gendarmerie and the municipal police were also present.
