Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The state of Hesse takes in eleven Syrian refugees.

The two families and one other person were coming to Germany from the Greek islands, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced in Wiesbaden on Thursday.

Employees of an initial reception facility in Gießen will pick up the refugees on Thursday at Hanover-Langenhagen Airport.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the people in the Gießen district, Darmstadt-Dieburg district and Darmstadt are to be accommodated.

The refugees had previously been in quarantine and had been tested twice for the corona virus.

Minister of Social Affairs Kai Klose (Greens) announced that on the Greek islands "a particularly large number of people live together in a confined space and under problematic conditions".

The admission is due to broad political support and "the worsening emergency".

Further flights for refugees from the Greek island of Lesbos are planned for the beginning of March.
