Hanover / Leer (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony Greens are calling for a significantly higher investment program in the double-digit billion range in view of the Corona crisis.

"With millions you don't get too far," said the Green member of the state parliament Meta Janssen-Kucz of the "Ostfriesen-Zeitung" (Thursday) published in Leer.

For Lower Saxony you have to plan with a two-digit billion program - especially for the municipalities, in order to also absorb the psychosocial consequences of the economic crisis, the Green politician told the paper.

Economics minister Bernd Althusmann announced on Wednesday that the budget committee had approved the planned increase in funding from 450 million to almost 800 million euros.

The CDU politician said: "This is the largest investment program that Lower Saxony has seen in the last few decades."

However, he admitted that the government had been surprised by the great demand for assistance.

"That gives me a lot of stomach ache, because we have to intensify our social infrastructure and, in some cases, have to reorganize it in order not to leave the companies and, above all, the people alone in this situation," said the Green MP Janssen-Kucz.

With a view to the next federal-state meeting on March 3, she demanded: “The task of the Prime Minister's Conference next week must be to adopt a step-by-step plan that clearly defines the tasks of municipalities, the state and the federal government and does not push them back and forth . "
