Munich (dpa) - Basketball professional Wade Baldwin has led FC Bayern Munich to an important victory in the fight for the playoff places in the Euroleague.
Thanks to their strong performance in the final quarter, the Bundesliga team returned to the road to success after two competitive defeats and prevailed in a hard-fought game against Maccabi Tel Aviv with 72:70 (37:38).
After 26 games, coach Andrea Trinchieri's team now has 16 victories.
«We have done a good job so far.
That was a strong team performance and that was a combative performance for which we were rewarded, ”said Baldwin, who scored his 500th point in the highest European competition during the game.
Bayern were quickly 4-0 up on the debut of new signing David Krämer, but then conceded a 0-11 run.
From then on, the Munich team ran after a deficit, which they were able to reduce again until the break (37:38).
In the second half, Tel Aviv initially did not allow the home side to develop due to a physically strong defense.
Baldwin took on responsibility in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his 16 points in this phase.
At 64:62 Bayern, where captain Nihad Djedovic had to pause due to a knee injury, took the lead again for the first time.
Although the guests managed to equalize again, Nick Weiler-Babb converted the decisive free throws nine seconds before the end.
