February 25, 2021 The first hearing on the custody of Patrick Zaki will be held on Sunday 28 February, at least according to a tweet attributable to a group of "Patrick Libero" activists who have been fighting for the release of the Egyptian student of the University of Bologna for over a year in prison in Egypt on charges of subversive propaganda.

The hearing was expected in mid-March, after the young Egyptian student was sentenced to another 45 days in custody on February 1.

"We will present to the court - the lawyers announce -

documents proving the health conditions of his father

, so that his hospitalization is considered. "Most importantly, the team is demanding his release" since there is no legal basis to justify pre-trial detention.

Patrick has been detained in Tora Prison for more than a year and is being held in pre-trial detention without clear charges and with a falsified arrest report, so we continue to demand the immediate release of Patrick. "

Activists of the 'Free Patrick' group 'thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio with a post on Facebook for "supporting Patrick's freedom." On the

occasion of the 46th regular session of the Human Rights Council

, the minister said: "We ask for the release of young student Patrick Zaki still unjustly detained in Egypt.

We then demand that the truth about the barbaric killing of another young life, that of Giulio Regeni, be brought to light and revealed, bringing those responsible to justice.

We urge the Egyptian government once again to guarantee full respect for the rights and freedoms enshrined in its constitution ".
