Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, educators and teachers at elementary and special schools can now be vaccinated against the corona virus.

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday.

The vaccine is to be administered by Astrazeneca.

Appointments can be booked online via the booking portal or by telephone via a hotline.

People between the ages of 18 and 64 have a right.

«I strongly advocated the earlier vaccination of elementary school and special school teachers and educators.

The vaccinations can sensibly accompany the opening of schools and daycare centers and create more security, ”said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD).

The vaccine Astrazeneca protects very well against the course of the disease, emphasized Köpping.

"Because there are still vacant vaccination dates for Astrazeneca, we decided to start vaccination at priority level 2."

According to the Ministry of Health, it can also be used to book a vaccination appointment for people under 65 who are at high risk of developing a serious disease.

These include patients after an organ transplant, cancer patients, people with chronic kidney disease or diabetics.

In addition, the police and law enforcement officials are entitled to vaccination with Astrazeneca under certain conditions.

The Astrazeneca agent is an important component of the vaccination strategy in the EU, as it is comparatively cheap and has less stringent requirements in terms of transport and storage than the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna.

However, there is some debate about the drug's effectiveness.
