Berlin (dpa) - With the arrival of more vaccines, the federal states expect significant progress in vaccinations against the corona virus by the beginning of April.

In several countries, vaccination capacities could be doubled by then, according to a survey by the German Press Agency.

According to the information, a lack of vaccine quantities in particular has limited immunization.

In contrast, there were sufficient staff.

Bavaria, for example, recently reported a capacity of around 46,000 vaccinations per day.

In view of the announced delivery volumes, it is to be expanded to around 111,000 by April.

Theoretically, up to 60,000 vaccinations per day could be given in Baden-Württemberg;

currently there are 14,000 to 19,000.

But since around 450,000 doses of the vaccine from Astrazeneca are expected by mid-March, an increase is expected in the country.

According to the Länder, growth up to a doubling or even multiplication of the possibilities is also possible in Bremen, Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein or Thuringia.

In Lower Saxony, for example, 17,000 cans were last injected a day.

The capacity in the vaccination centers is currently around 20,000 vaccinations per day, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health.

"There is definitely still room for improvement."

Most recently, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn pushed for a higher vaccination rate in the federal states.

These would have reported capacities of up to 300,000 vaccinations a day - at the moment, up to 150,000 were taking place a day, said the CDU politician on Wednesday in ZDF.

That is why he is assuming "that this will now be increased significantly".

Now vaccine is there.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 5.4 million vaccine doses had been injected up to and including Tuesday.

Indeed, a number of countries cited vaccine shortages as the main cause of slow progress - they said there was no shortage of staff.

Many countries also reported great helpfulness.

Around 1000 doctors in Thuringia reported at the beginning of the vaccination campaign;

140 to 180 are needed daily. In Rhineland-Palatinate, around 5600 doctors and more than 1100 pharmacists registered in the state's volunteer pool.

Countries can expect larger amounts of vaccine by the beginning of April.

The manufacturer Biontech announced a total of more than 11.5 million vaccine doses by the end of March.

By then, Moderna should deliver 1.8 million cans to the countries.

In addition, there are expected to be around 5.6 million doses of Astrazeneca's vaccine.

A total of almost 19 million vaccine doses could have been delivered by then.

According to the federal states, it is still unclear whether nationwide vaccination can also be carried out in general practitioners' practices in the near future.

Some like Bavaria, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony or Rhineland-Palatinate are planning their first pilot projects.

Brandenburg, for example, wants to involve up to 50 general practitioners' practices in a pilot project.

In other countries such as Hesse or Schleswig-Holstein, those responsible initially want to concentrate on the vaccination centers or are not yet planning with the general practitioners' practices.
