Mortality


If we examine the data relating to mortality, Brazil is behind the United States with 249,957 victims followed by Mexico, which has now largely exceeded the threshold of 180 thousand victims (182,815).

Italy (96,666) followed by France (85,321) and Russia (84,047). 



WHO: Infections on the decline


According to the WHO, the number of coronavirus infections in the world decreased by 11% in the period from 15 to 21 February, while the number of victims fell by 20% compared to the previous week.

The decline in incidence was particularly evident in North and South America (by 19%), in the Western Pacific (by 9%), in Europe (by 7%) and in the Eastern Mediterranean region (by 7%).

Mortality in these regions also decreased, respectively by 23%, 6%, 19% and 3%.

The drop in mortality was also recorded in Africa (by 20%) and in Southeast Asia (by 6%).



United States: Biden extends state of emergency


United States President Joe Biden has extended the declaration of national emergency in response to the Covid-19 pandemic beyond the March deadline.

The original declaration was made on March 13, 2020 and would expire one year later.

"The Covid-19 pandemic continues to pose a significant risk to public health and the security of the nation," reads an official note from the president.

"It is essential to continue to fight and respond to Covid-19 with the full capacity and capacity of the federal government."
