Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The city of Dusseldorf has imposed a "stay ban" for the famous old town and the nearby banks of the Rhine on the coming weekends until March 14th.

You can no longer stand, sit down, or lie on a meadow in this area for most of the day.

Background: Last weekend tens of thousands of people were in the best weather in the alleys of the old town and especially on the Rhine promenade.

According to the city, the minimum distance was repeatedly disregarded.

The new general decree came into force on Thursday.

It is valid from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

With the times, the disposition is to be protected against possible claims due to lack of proportionality.

The city wants to put up 300 red signs in the coming days, which are marked with the words “No stay zone: Please go on”.

In addition, masks have been mandatory on the Rhine promenade since Thursday.
