Berlin (dpa) - From the perspective of the musician Till Brönner, the corona pandemic has triggered a crisis of meaning among artists.

"Many artists no longer know what they are still practicing for," said the jazz trumpeter on Thursday in Berlin during a discussion on "Cultural work - a new start after the pandemic" of the Federation of German Employers' Associations.

Brönner assumes that due to a lack of finances after the end of the pandemic, young artists in particular will have problems.

"Newcomers will be left out."

The President of the German Stage Association, Hamburg's Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda, pointed out that the slump in sales in the cultural scene was only exceeded by the aviation industry.

"There is no solidarity-based security system," said Brosda.

From his point of view, the question of the social relevance of culture must be brought into focus.

For this, thresholds would also have to be dismantled.

Anyone who has been to the theater and museums will also come back.

Katja Lucker from the Musicboard Berlin asked, “What is culture worth in this country”?

Artists always worked, even during a time like the corona pandemic.

That is why references to basic security like Hartz IV are “something terrible”.

Lucker also referred to the long-term consequences of the pandemic.

Numerous places of art are already collapsing because rents can no longer be paid.

“Politics and business have to support culture for years to come,” said Lucker.
