Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The ADAC air rescue helicopters flew 1140 missions in Saxony-Anhalt last year.

That was around 130 missions less than in the previous year with around 1270, as the car club announced on Thursday.

Reason number one was according to the information after injuries to people after accidents.

A good third of the flights were also aimed at providing rapid care for patients with cardiovascular problems, such as those caused by a heart attack.

The air rescuers were also called in to provide medical care to patients with neurological emergencies - such as strokes - as well as respiratory problems.

Nationwide, the ADAC air rescue service was called around 51,750 times in the previous year.

That was 2220 missions less than 2019 with around 53 970 missions.

The rescuers from the air were also used in emergencies due to the pandemic in 2020.

Around 800 corona missions were flown from the 37 ADAC air rescue stations nationwide.

These included 100 special transports with patients seriously ill with Covid-19.
